Start the big race weekend off right with a drop down the mountain. The Air Downhill is BUMP’s first true air downhill race. The course will be approximately 4500 ft of challenging yet enjoyable single-track for downhill racers to navigate. There are jumps, bumps, and plenty of downhill action to keep you on your toes as you navigate the Air Downhill.
WHEN: The race will take place on Saturday.
WHERE: Racing will begin from the starting area at the top of the Lightning trail. Riders will be responsible for knowing the route before starting. Maps are available on BUMP’s web site.
COST: Air Downhill is $25.00 to anyone who wants to participate; no USAC license is required to race. The only rules for participating is that all riders must wear an ANSI approved helmet and sign a waiver at check-in. Additional downhill equipment such as a full faced helmet or body armor is recommended.
START: At check-in, racers will sign a waiver, verify they have brought an ANSI approved helmet and receive their race packets that will include a trail map showing the race route and their number that will correspond to their starting position. Racers will start based on check-in order and are responsible for being at the designated staging area at the race start time. Once racing begins, they are responsible for getting to the start line as their numbers are called up. Racers will be sent off at assigned times with approximately 1 minute intervals between, depending on field size. Racers will be eliminated if they do not start at their given starting time.
SCORING: This is a time trial race format. Racers will be scored based on their finishing positions and results will be kept and posted online. Racers will be categorized into Men Open/Women Open.
Awards for the Air Downhill event are described on the Awards page.
